All interior designers generally advise what to buy to make the apartment look nicer, and no one writes about what money should not be spent on. Until now!
Blankets over the sofa, short curtains, a bunch of little things on the shelves – all these are bugs that not only make the interior less attractive but also burden the living space. Furnishing an apartment is already an expensive enough occupation, so don’t buy things that will consume your budget, and it won’t look pretty. That is why we have selected 10 things that should not be spent on interior decoration. Let’s go in turn!
- Sofa and armchair covers
No, not at all! If you feel that this is how you protect the sofa from wear or dirt, it may be better to protect your good taste by not doing this.
- Glass TV shelves
Metal TV mounts with glass elements never look good and you will never see them in a good interior. More metal and glass besides the TV, which is certainly made of these two materials, will not look good. A much better option is to choose a TV mount that attaches to a wall or a wooden dresser that is commensurate with the size of the TV.
- Small dressers
Speaking of proportion, if you have a large TV, say 42, 50 or more inches, never place it on small dressers! Those two are definitely not going. If you have found places for a big TV, find places for the right dresser.
- Furniture in combination of three or more materials
Bypass in wide arc! So, a sofa with wooden armrests and stainless steel details are definitely not a good combination. Although its glitter will attract you, you better forget it immediately! The same is the case with a club table or dining table of three or more materials.
- An armchair that goes paired with a sofa
Even though you think you did the right thing for your living room this way, you were wrong! Always choose an armchair different from the sofa as this will avoid the monotony in the space created by the two largest pieces of furniture in the same series.
- Sofas with distinctly colorful textures
No, don’t go back to the 80’s! The sofa bed is yes, but not if it is covered with so much colorful fabric that even when you brew coffee, the stain remains unnoticed.
- Short curtains
Despite the Bap stories, radiators can’t fire the curtains! Feel free to let the curtains fall over the radiator so the windows will look visually larger. If this is not possible, for example, when there is a desk under the window, use a packet or Roman curtain instead of the classic curtains.
- Lots of little decoration
A lot of small details without a single large, concrete element that will be the center of attention does not look good in space because no wood can be seen from the forest. It is better to buy one larger, more striking piece that will attract views than a bunch of little ones that will drown into each other.
- Brightly colored children’s room furniture
Do not use colorful furniture in the children’s room that will be interesting to the child, but also to you, for only a few months. The child will grow quickly, and in combination with colorful toys, the whole room will look like a fair. It is recommended to use monochrome or neutral furniture, and to decorate the interior with interesting details.
- Drawn graphics
If you need something to fill your central wall in the living room, avoid printed images without having an emotional connection to the city that is on it. Worn graphics or a Eiffel tower with a postage stamp on the meter will not look good. Instead, attach the plates you inherited from your grandmother, or simply paste the wallpaper.
